King's Alley

Waikiki, Honolulu

A tourist oriented shopping complex based on the old Yankee architectural tradigion of the Islands, known as Monarchial Style.

Taking the premise that most tourists visit Waikiki only once, the pedestrian flow was manipulated so that the tourist would be exposed to each of the 47 shops at least once while walking through the project. The wide entrance court is designed to draw the tourist into the project. The tourist is virtually unaware of shopping on two levels as attractive vistas pull him inward and upward to destination points.
