The Jackson Building

San Francisco, California

This 1907 building is now included within San Francisco’s New Montgomery/Second Street Conservation District.

Although the complete rehabilitation took place prior to the formation of the District, this restoration was the forerunner of the District’s goal to preserve existing scale and building facades.

The building’s masonry exterior, wood sash, embossed steel storefronts, and sheet metal cornice were restored. The rehabilitation included seismic upgrade and new life safety, mechanical, and electrical systems. A unique two story lobby and retail atrium was created out of the ground floor and basement.
